War wasps are flying insect enemies that Samus first encounters on Frigate Orpheon in Metroid Prime. They will swarm any threats to their hive without hesitation, and can be very aggressive in battle. The toxin they inject with their sting can incapacitate most any small organisms. War wasps live in many different environments. There are several sub-species of war wasp that have adapted to their new habitat and gained slightly different abilities than that of the generic war wasp.
Known species of these wasps include:
- War Wasp
- Ram War Wasp
- Barbed War Wasp
- Red-Barbed War Wasp
- Blue-Barbed War Wasp
- Dark War Wasp
Where war wasps are found, it is very likely that a war wasp hive will be nearby. War wasps will continue to spawn from the hive until Samus destroys it using a Missile or a charged Power Beam shot in Metroid Prime 2: Echoes.
