The Grapple Beam allows Samus to jump across large gaps and bottomless pits by latching onto a Grapple Point. The Grapple Beam can also be used with other weapons to take out enemies by removing key defense components such as shields on Space Pirates.
The Grapple Beam is made of electronic waves, and in Super Metroid you stuck to metal railing on the ceiling. In recent games, however, you stuck to a Grapple Point. The first Grapple Beam appearance was in Super Metroid. This beam is extremely helpful throughout the series.
